Encaustic Punic-wax on wood;

A man, late Flavian-Trajanic, ca. 81 - 117 AD. Punic-wax on wood.

He may be a great athlete in his prime, or an initiate of the Isis cult. This magnificent portrait was painted with Punic-wax (wax used cold, mixed with oil and/or egg), applied entirely with brushes. Note the detailed highlights in the eyes.
