Der
Blaue Reiter
A
group of German Expressionists founded in
Munich in 1911. The name translates as 'The Blue
Rider' and was taken from a painting by Kandinsky.
Although not strictly a movement with a defined
programme, the group did veer more towards mysticism
and spirituality than the other major
Expressionist organization, Die
Brücke(the bridge). Key artists included Marc and Macke, who were joined
by Klee and Delaunay in 1912.
