Neue
Sachlichkeit
A
stylistic tendency within the German Expressionist
movement in the 1920s which reflected the cynicism
that pervaded in Germany after the First World War.
It translates as 'The New Objectvity'. Artists of the
Neue Sachlichkeit group, who included Dix and Grosz,
tended to put a greater emphasis on social criticism
and political comment than other Expressionists,
who dealt with more subjective and emotional themes.
