Northern Renaissance

Art produced in the countries north of Italy in the first half of the sixteenth century. It is sometimes considered to include the late Gothic Dutch (or Netherlandish) painting of the fifteenth century because of its interest in certain aspects of realism.

Representative painters:
Gerard David, Petrus Christus, Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach the Elder, Matthias Grünewald, Albrecht Altdorfer, Baldung Grien (Hans Baldung), Ambrosius Holbein, Hans Holbein the Younger
