Op Art

A movement in abstract art that developed in the 1960s. Op Art (short for 'optical art') exploits the fallibility of the human eye. The artist plays games with the viewer by creating images which appear to shimmer and pulsate- Although the work of art itself is static, the forms and colours used cause an optical illusion of movement.

Representative painters:
Riley, Vasarely
