Karl Otto Götz

 
GÖTZ Karl Otto, born 1914, Aachen
German painter.


 
  1932-1934 Attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Aachen.  
  1935-36 Travelled throuout Switzerland and Italy.
 
  1936 Made abstract films and experimented with photographic painting and photograms.
 
  1945 Joined Baumeister, Hartung and Nay in the group Rosen-Kreis.
 
  1948-53 Editor of the journal 'Meta'.
 
  1952 Together with O.Greis, H.Kreutz and Schultze, founded the group 'Quadriga' in Frankfurt. First Informal paintings inspired by Wols and Tachisme.
 
  1958 Participated in the Venice Biennale.
 
  1959 Participated in the documenta 2 in Kassel.
 
  1959-79 Taught painting at the Düsseldorf Academy.
 
 
Götz' calligraphic improvisations make him one of the main exponents of Lyrical Abstraction in Germany.
