SIQUEIROS, David Alfaro, born 1886, San Roslia de Camargo
- 1974 Mexico City.
Mexican Painter.
 
  1911-13 Studied at the San Carlos Art Academy in Mexico City.
 
  1919 Received a scholarship enabling him to work in Paris and Barcelona for three years. Friendship with Rivery.
 
  1924 Painted frescoes in the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria.
 
  1930 Banished to Tasco for political reasons and in ...
 
  1932 ... officially exiled. Designed a mural for the Plaza Art Center in Los Angeles.
 
  1934 Spent a year in New York.
 
  1935 Organised a workshop, with pupils including Pollock.
 
  1937 Took part in the Spanish Civil War.
 
  1944 Founded the Centro Realista de Arte Moderna.
 
  1950 Frescoes for the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
 
  1955 Visits to Poland and the Soviet Union.
 
  1962 Sentenced to eight years' imprisonment but granted a ...
 
  1964 ... reprieve.
 
  1964-69 Worked on a monumental fresco entitled 'The March of Humanity', for which he was awarded the Mexican National Price for Art.
 
 
Along with Rivera and Orozco, Siqueiros is regarded as one of the great Mexican fresco painters.
