Bradley Walker Tomlin

 
TOMLIN Bradley Walker, born 1899 Syracuse (NY) - 1953 New York
American painter.

 
  1917-21 Studied at the College of Fine Arts at Syracuse University, New York.
 
  1921 Moved to New York.
 
  1922 First solo-exhibition put on by Skaneateles and Cazenovia, New York.
 
  1923/24 Studied at the Académic Colarossi and at the Académic de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris.
 
  1924 Returned to New York.
 
  1932-41 Taught at Sarah Lawrence College.
 
  1941 Came to know Gottlieb and was highly impressed by Abstract Expressionism.
 
  1948 Became friends with Motherwell, Pollock and Gorky.
 
  1952 1952 Took part in the exhibition "Fifteen Americans" at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
 
  1957 Retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
 
  1959 Posthumous participation in documenta 2 in Kassel.
 
  1975 Retrospective at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo.
 
 
Tomlin was a leading exponent of Action Painting in America. His most important works were created in the last few years of his life.
